A 27-year-old man lost his life after becoming trapped in a machine at a recycling plant in Cardiff, an inquest has revealed.

On 8 July, Kyle Colcomb from Newport died due to compression asphyxia with blunt force injuries to his lower trunk, as heard at the Pontypridd Coroner’s Court on Friday.

Mr. Colcomb was employed at Atlantic Recycling, a company linked to a firm that donated £200,000 to Vaughan Gething’s Welsh Labour leadership campaign.

Colleagues described Mr. Colcomb as “an absolute gentleman” and “totally irreplaceable.”

In a social media statement, his colleagues at M&B Hydraulics expressed their sorrow: “We are heartbroken to announce that Kyle was tragically taken in an on-site incident at a Cardiff site. Kyle was an outstanding fitter, an absolute gentleman, and an all-round nice guy. Totally irreplaceable.”

They added, “It was an absolute pleasure to have worked with you and known you. RIP to our friend. Our thoughts go out to all his family during this terrible time.”
